latest and greatest

Not wearing mascara, as my first stop of the day is going to be the gym, and frankly I think wearing makeup to the gym is stupid. I also woke up about three hours earlier than I planned to, and finally gave up and got out of bed and got going after an hour of not falling back to sleep, which is the kind of start to the day that usually warrants makeup.
I won't wash my makeup off before I work out if I'm wearing it through my day and then go workout, but putting on makeup expressly to go workout is just dumb, I'm sorry, it is. (Unless you're making a workout DVD or something, in which case MAYBE it's okay. Scratch that, it might be OKAY, but it's still DUMB.)

My drugstore favorite these days is definitely CoverGirl Lashblast, which I need to replace, as I just tossed my tube that got passed around while I was performing in 'The Vagina Monologues' this year. I was honestly a little surprised by just how much I love this mascara. It gives great volume and length, is a nice, rich black, and doesn't really smudge or run, at least not the water-proof version, which is the only kind of mascara for which I ever have any use. I'm thinking of trying one of the exciting new variations on the product, such as the shimmery, eye-color enhancing kind, or LashBlast Length.

My high-end fav right now is Imju Fiberwig. It goes on well, and looks AMAZING. It can flake a little bit if I'm sweating a lot or touch my eyes too much, but basically has good staying power, to the point of needing very careful and meticulous removal.

I'm also really loving tarte revjuelash. It perks-up my mascara in the middle of a long day, a transition from day to night, or in between performances without really adding more makeup per se, and doesn't create clumps or an over-done look. It makes my eyelashes look fresh and fabulous. I picked it up as part of a Sephora Beauty Insider deal with some other great, eco-friendly tarte products. The eyelash curler is absolutely the best I've ever tried. I didn't think there was a whole lot of difference amongst eyelash curlers of the same basic design, but this one definitely outperforms the myriad of inexpensive ones I've tried over the years.

I recently got e.l.f.'s mini eyelash curler. I don't think I've gotten the hang of it yet. It seems like a great and brilliant tool - to target smaller portions of the lashes, but I keep making mine look too angular and weird when I've tried to use it. More research to follow.

DYING to try L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion. It looks a heck of a lot like Givenchy's Phenomen'Eyes.

I know, I've said it before, but honestly: I will start posting reviews with pics on a regular basis.

my fringe during fringe

Regular posting to resume STAT. I bought the lash stash and will test the products one by one when I'm finished working the Boulder International Fringe Festival, and back at school, where I sweat somewhat less profusely than when wiring and rigging in an unconditioned space in August.

In the meantime, both Maybelline Lash Discovery waterproof and CoverGirl LashBlast waterproof are looking good and standing up.

Come see a show!!!

waterproof my ass

You know something Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express, if you run all over my face and smear off on tissues/the back of my hand when I cry, you are NOT waterproof.

I'm generally a big fan of Maybelline mascaras in general, and have found them to be about as 'waterproof' as one can ever really expect. I've yet to find a formula that doesn't flake or smear or bleed at least a little bit by the end of a day, or under stage lights, in rain, through tears, etc., but this was absolutely ridiculous.
This was not :dab up the excess under and around my eyes with a tissue, and have my makeup and I look alright, this was giant black smears under and above my eyes, and on my cheeks, as well as the back of my hands, and Mon Amore's shirt. Lame.

*Correction*
I was mistaken and this formula does not claim to be waterproof, which I find somewhat comforting. However; I fail to understand why on earth anyone would bother making mascara that is not waterproof, for the aforementioned reasons.

sweet dreams are made of these

I actually had a dream that I magically found the last Lash Stash at Sephora. Yes, really.

While this did not happen in reality, I did pick up the Fresh Magic Wands Mini Mascara Duo:

I just could not resist the pretty packaging or the price! $10 for this mini duo. The idea is that the black tube makes a super-defined black base, and the blue one makes feathery extensions. I will be trying them both alone and together.

My camera is currently M.I.A. in the move, along with my phone charger, so I am unable to provide pictures of products on my lashes at the moment.

Lash Stash?

I am incredibly annoyed with myself right now:
Last night I was perusing the Sephora website, in part planning on taking a friend there for the first time (something that I love doing so much) and in part debating buying the Sun Safety Kit online versus in-store, to try to deal with how incredibly bright it is here all the time, and that I keep finding myself forgetting to pack sunscreen in my purse/school bag, and having to buy it wherevere I am - many small bottles of sunscreen to stash in everything I carry.
If I buy online, I am invariably tempted to buy enough that I get free shipping, if I buy in-store, something I did not plan to purchase will suddenly become something with which I cannot live without.
I came across the 'Lash Stash' - a value kit of 10 'deluxe-sample' sized mascaras for $35.00 (an $85.00 value) which included several that are on my 'must try' list. I talked myself out of buying it, along with the Sun Safety Kit that second, and decided to wait until I go on Friday with my darling friend. Afterall, I'm moving! Our new bathroom is much smaller than our current one, which is disproportionately enormous for the size of the apartment, and Mon Amore and I are already trying to figure out where it is we are both going to keep our not totally reasonable volume of product, not to mention, not needing unecessarily to spend money on anything. Sunscreen I can always justify, even for me, more mascara occasionally becomes difficult.
So I went back to look this morning, with the idea of checking to see if it was actually available in-store, or if I should go on and order the damn thing, now that I have a new address, and
IT'S GONE.
It is 'not active' on the website. What the hell!? In less than 24, actually, less than 12 hours, it has just dissapeared from the site. I will be checking in-store on Friday. If it isn't available there either, I will doubtless continue to kick myself until such time as it re-appears.

Sephora, I love you, I'm a very good customer to you, I bring you new customers with relative frequency, why would you hurt me so?
